Why do we Toss the Garter?
Back in the 1400's having a piece of the brides clothing was considered good luck. In order to obtain a piece of the lucky attire, guests would tear the clothes off the bride. As time went by brides started tossing guests items to keep them from tearing their dress and today it is custom for the bride to toss her bouquet to the single women at the ceremony while the groom tosses her garter to the single men after HE removes it from her leg.
